Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
You have the power to choose.
Even though most of us don’t believe it to be so.
We tend to let the outside world choose for us, and react to those circumstances.
A different way, is to decide who you wish to be going forward in this day, and be that person. Instead of making a ‘to do’ list for your day, try making a ‘to be’ list.
Think “today I will be, compassionate, happy, enthusiastic, and giving.” Then go
and be that person.
Remembering that we are content to the degree we are helping others.
Recently, I attended a conference put on by The Department of Athletics at
The University of Victoria. There were several interesting and world class speakers, but none captured my imagination, like Dr. Carolyn Crippen. Her talk was on 7 Pillars of Servant Leadership based on the book written by James Sipe and Don Frick.
When Carolyn spoke, you could hear a pin drop. It was very apparent her topic struck a chord with her audience.
She spoke of being a leader, lending your support and guidance to those around you. Knowing none of us can do it alone. Remembering that all things, both good and bad have made you who you are today. It’s all a gift. Give freely from that wisdom.
Give with no strings attached, and it will come back to you.
Dr. Crippen’s motto is: ‘First to Serve, Then to Lead.’
I am so grateful to have been present that day, and it was very obvious by the response from the audience her message was timely.
