In his book You Squared, Price Pritchett says, “Focus on the ends rather than the means.”
What does he mean by that?
He goes on to say, “You don’t have to know how you’re going to get there, but you need to know where you want to go.”
You have to have a picture. Add feeling or emotion to your picture. Take action, take a leap of faith. Focus on a landing spot and nothing else when you leap.
What happens if you learn to do this, is that you become a magnet for answers to questions, and solutions to problems. They simply begin to appear. Having strong faith is an important factor.
Also key factor is making a decision for something. You have the potential, the resources, and the opportunity. It is all there for you.
If you need to know all the steps to get to your desired result, that is the “how,” Pritchett says not to concern yourself with those details. Why? Because you will not let yourself go enough to get out of the way and let it happen.
I’d like to share a personal story as example of this idea. I had a Dental Practice in British Columbia. There was an extreme shortage of Hygienists. They were training fewer Hygienists at the time. Those who were available, with supply and demand, were asking for, and getting, very high wages and benefits. It was difficult to find hygiene help at all, let alone someone who was compatible with our practice philosophy of patient care.
All the facts pointed to an impossible task. So I resorted to drastically different measures. Every day after work, I would go to a quite beach by the ocean. There I would ask the Universe to send me a Hygienist who cared deeply for her patients, who had excellent technical skills, who loved our philosophy, and who was a great team player. That was my dream.
Now, within a month, 6 weeks at the most, my prayers were answered! Tasha had jumped in her car, with her new puppy, and driven more that half way across the country. She answered my ad and drove another 12 hours to an interview.
Tasha, was all that I had been looking for and much more. A wonderful match for us.
My dream come true. Invisible forces were at work. And my willingness was an enabler here.
Pritchett says, “You must take advantage of support systems you cannot see.”
Learn to harness the power of these unseen forces, and you will benefit you in ways that will amaze you.
